What Is Flare (FLR)?
About Flare Network
Flare is an EVM-compatible Layer 1 blockchain designed to extend smart-contract capabilities to assets on non-programmable networks. Its two core native protocols serve as infrastructure: the Flare Time Series Oracle (FTSO) provides decentralised manipulation-resistant price feeds without relying on third-party oracle providers
FTSO
The Flare Time Series Oracle (FTSO) distributes price data production across an open set of independent data providers. FLR holders delegate voting weight to providers and receive a share of inflation rewards proportionally. FIP.16 a governance proposal passed in April 2026 adjusted the FTSO reward epoch structure to improve data freshness and provider incentives.
The Flare Data Connector (FDC) enables Flare smart contracts to obtain cryptographically verified proofs of events on external blockchains — including Bitcoin
How FLR Transactions Work
FLR transactions work identically to Ethereum transactions. You send FLR (or any ERC-20 token on Flare) from a 0x address to another 0x address paying a gas fee in FLR. Flare's block time of approximately 1.8 seconds and low base fees make microtransactions practical.
When you wrap FLR into WFLR (Wrapped FLR) you can participate in FTSO delegation via the Flare Portal and earn protocol rewards. This is an on-chain action and does not require trusting a custodian — WFLR is a standard smart-contract wrapper that returns native FLR when unwrapped.
For exchanges Flare wallets use the standard EVM format: a 40-character hexadecimal address prefixed with '0x'. No MEMO or secondary tag is required. Any wallet that supports Ethereum custom RPC (MetaMask

For FLR exchanges prioritise non-custodial aggregators (like Swapzone) that route funds directly to the exchange partner without holding them. Check that the partner's deposit address is shown clearly before you send. For larger amounts use partners with a track record of fast and accurate FLR delivery — visible as user rating and review count on Swapzone. Always verify you are on the correct Swapzone URL before initiating. FLR transactions on Flare are irreversible once broadcast.
Centralised exchanges (CEXes) hold your FLR in their wallets while you have an account balance — you need to register
FLR exchange fees come from two sources: the exchange partner's spread (built into the rate you see on Swapzone) and the network gas fee on whichever blockchain delivers the output asset. Swapzone itself charges no additional platform fee. FLR gas fees on Flare are minimal — typically fractions of a cent per transaction. The primary cost variable is the partner's rate relative to the market mid-price
Minimum amounts vary by exchange partner and direction. Swapzone displays each partner's minimum alongside the offer. Enter your target amount on the exchange page — if it falls below a partner's minimum that partner's offer is hidden automatically. In practice most partners accept FLR amounts equivalent to a few dollars in value making small swaps accessible.
FLR is the native token of Flare Network — it is used for gas
Flare Network itself is a public blockchain available globally including to US residents. Swapzone is also available globally and does not apply geographic restrictions to FLR exchanges. Whether specific centralised exchange partners apply US-specific KYC or geographic restrictions depends on each partner's compliance posture — check the KYC frequency label and the partner's own terms before proceeding for larger amounts.

Swapzone itself does not require any identity verification. KYC requirements depend on the individual exchange partner you select — shown as a frequency label (Rare / Often / Never) on each offer. Partners labelled 'Never' or 'Rare' process FLR exchanges without identity documents for standard amounts. Partners labelled 'Often' may request verification particularly for larger transactions. You can filter by KYC label before selecting an offer.
