What is MNT?
About Mantle
"MNT is the native gas and governance token of Mantle Network, a modular Ethereum Layer 2 that splits the standard rollup architecture into independent layers for execution, data availability, settlement, and proof generation, and upgrades each component separately over time. Mantle emerged from BitDAO through a community-voted rebrand in May 2023, with the mainnet launching on July 17, 2023 and BIT tokens converting to MNT at a 1:1 ratio. Unlike most Ethereum L2s that use ETH as their gas token, Mantle uses MNT for on-chain transaction fees, which creates token demand proportional to network activity. Mantle uses EigenDA, EigenLayer's data availability service, while Ethereum remains the settlement and security layer. In September 2025 the network moved from optimistic rollup verification to zero-knowledge validity proofs via OP Succinct (SP1), according to Nansen."
MNT tokenomics
"MNT has a total supply of about 6.22 billion tokens. Mantle's economic model relies on a large DAO treasury to fund ecosystem growth rather than inflationary emissions.
Total supply — approximately 6.22 billion MNT, according to CoinGecko in October 2026
Circulating supply — approximately 3.30 billion MNT as of October 2026, according to CoinGecko
Gas token — transactions on Mantle are paid in MNT instead of ETH
Treasury — the Mantle DAO treasury funds grants and ecosystem programs; a community discussion opened on 18 September 2026 proposes using ecosystem revenue to buy back MNT, and it had not been adopted as of October 2026
Governance — the Mantle DAO controls treasury allocation, protocol upgrades, and ecosystem spending through DAO votes
Validity proofs — since September 2025 Mantle uses ZK validity proofs via OP Succinct (SP1)"
What determines MNT's value
"MNT's primary demand driver is its role as the gas token for every transaction on Mantle. Every DeFi swap, NFT transfer, gaming interaction, and smart contract call on the network consumes MNT for fees, so the volume of MNT used for gas scales with network activity. A large share of total supply is not yet circulating, so supply released from the treasury and other allocations is a factor to watch.
The Mantle DAO treasury gives Mantle a large ecosystem development budget compared with many other L2s, which it uses to attract builders and fund infrastructure. The modular architecture lets Mantle swap in new technologies, such as EigenDA for data availability and SP1 ZK proofs for finality, without requiring users or developers to migrate. Competition between L2s is strong."

Frequently Asked Questions About Mantle (MNT)
"Unlike most Ethereum L2s that pay gas in ETH, Mantle charges all on-chain fees in MNT. That makes token demand proportional to network activity, because every DeFi swap, NFT transfer, and contract call consumes MNT."
"Mantle splits the rollup into independent layers for execution, data availability, settlement, and proof generation, and upgrades each one separately. It uses EigenDA for data availability, and Ethereum remains the settlement and security layer."
"EigenDA is EigenLayer's data availability service. Mantle uses it for data availability, which reduces costs while Ethereum stays the settlement layer."
"Yes. In September 2025 Mantle moved from optimistic rollup verification to zero-knowledge validity proofs via OP Succinct (SP1), according to Nansen, which gives finality once the proof is verified on Ethereum."
"BitDAO, a DAO with a large treasury, rebranded to Mantle through a community vote in May 2023. Mainnet launched on July 17, 2023, and BIT tokens converted to MNT at 1:1."
"The Mantle DAO treasury funds grants, liquidity programs, research, development, and partnership incentives. Its value moves with token prices, and a community discussion opened on 18 September 2026 proposes using ecosystem revenue to buy back MNT; it had not been adopted as of October 2026."
"Total supply is about 6.22 billion MNT, with about 3.30 billion in circulation as of October 2026, according to CoinGecko. MNT is not issued through ongoing inflation; the rest of the supply is held by the treasury and other allocations."
"Transactions on Mantle are paid in MNT. Fees on Layer 2 networks are usually lower than on Ethereum mainnet, but they change with network activity and data costs, so check the current fee before sending."
"The Mantle DAO controls treasury allocation, protocol upgrades, and ecosystem spending through DAO votes, with one MNT equal to one vote."
"This page lists MNTERC20, the ERC-20 version on Ethereum. Check whether the partner accepts MNT on Ethereum or on the native Mantle L2 network before sending."
"Open swapzone.io/exchange/mantle, enter the amount, and compare offers. Paste a 0x address on the network the offer states, send MNT to the deposit address, and track the order. No MEMO is required."
