What is GLM?
About Golem
GLM is the utility token of Golem Network, a peer-to-peer marketplace that lets users rent out idle computing power and lets others pay for it, effectively a decentralized supercomputer. Requestors who need heavy computation, for tasks such as CGI rendering, AI and machine-learning workloads, or data analysis, pay providers in GLM for access to their spare processing capacity, and Golem matches supply with demand across the network. The project is one of the oldest in the space: it raised roughly $8.6 million in a November 2016 ICO, selling 820 million tokens in under 30 minutes, which predates the DePIN category it helped inspire. GLM is the successor to the original Golem Network Token (GNT). At the end of 2020 Golem began migrating GNT to the ERC-20-based GLM at a fixed 1:1 ratio, a move that let the network use Ethereum Layer 2 payment rails and integrate with DeFi and dApps; the migration has no deadline. Governance shifted to the Golem Foundation, established in 2019, which also launched Octant, a participatory public-goods funding platform that stakes ETH and directs the yield to community-selected projects. Golem positions its network toward supplying compute to the AI industry.
GLM tokenomics
GLM has a fixed supply of 1 billion tokens, inherited unchanged from GNT, with no new issuance after the original crowdfunding. The supply is fully circulating, so market capitalization equals fully diluted valuation and no unlocks remain.
Total supply — 1,000,000,000 GLM, fixed, fully circulating as of November 2026, according to CoinGecko
Market data — market capitalization of about $105 million and a price of about $0.10 as of November 2026, according to CoinGecko; the all-time high was about $1.32 in April 2018
Original allocation — 82% to the 2016 crowdfunding, 12% to Golem Factory GmbH, 6% to the team
Migration — GNT converts to GLM at 1:1 with no deadline; the GLM contract address begins 0x7DD9
Token utility — payment currency for renting computing power between requestors and providers
Deployments — Ethereum ERC-20, primary
What determines GLM's value
GLM value depends on real demand for Golem's computing marketplace rather than on staking yield or fee capture. The token is the medium of exchange: requestors spend GLM to buy compute, providers earn it for supplying capacity, so demand scales with how much work actually flows through the network. That makes GLM a direct bet on whether decentralized compute finds users, and the pivot toward supplying the AI industry is the clearest potential demand driver, since AI training and inference need the kind of distributed processing Golem offers. Unlike governance tokens with no functional requirement, GLM must be held and spent to use the network.
Two structural facts frame the assessment. On supply, GLM is clean: a fixed 1 billion cap, fully circulating, no inflation, and no unlock overhang. On demand, the challenge is competition and relevance: Golem pioneered the decentralized-compute concept but now competes in a DePIN sector crowded with better-funded rivals, and its usage has not kept pace with its name recognition. The price is far below its April 2018 peak, which reflects that long gap between an early vision and sustained adoption.
