What is FLR?
About Flare Network
FLR is the native token of Flare Network, an EVM-compatible Layer 1 blockchain built specifically around decentralised data acquisition and cross-chain interoperability. Two protocols run natively at Flare's consensus layer: the Flare Time Series Oracle (FTSO), which produces decentralised price and data feeds without relying on third-party providers, and the Flare Data Connector (FDC), which cryptographically verifies events on other blockchains and external data sources to enable trustless cross-chain data bridging. Validators and delegators earn FLR rewards for supporting FTSO data accuracy — not for staking in the traditional sense, but for actively participating in data provision. Flare's mainnet launched in January 2023 and distributed its initial token allocation to XRP holders.
FLR tokenomics
Flare created 100 billion FLR at genesis. Community participants received their allocations through two mechanisms: an initial airdrop of 4.28 billion FLR to XRP holders on January 9, 2023, and FlareDrop — 24.25 billion FLR distributed in 36 monthly instalments to WFLR (wrapped FLR) holders. The FlareDrop programme concluded on January 30, 2026, completing the three-year distribution schedule, according to Flare's official announcement. Approximately 106 billion FLR are currently tracked in supply data, reflecting the full genesis allocation including community, development, and team pools.
Genesis supply — 100 billion FLR created at mainnet; community allocation represents 58.3% of genesis supply
FlareDrop completed — 24.25 billion FLR distributed over 36 months concluded January 30, 2026; this supply source is permanently closed
Monthly burn programme — 66,293,390 FLR burned per month beginning October 2024 as part of the 2.1 billion FLR burn plan targeting unclaimed airdrop and backer token allocations
Transaction fee burns — all transaction fees on Flare are automatically burned; unclaimed FTSO rewards are also removed from circulation
FTSO delegation rewards — FLR holders wrap tokens into WFLR and delegate to FTSO data providers; rewards are paid in FLR on an inflationary schedule defined by FIP.01 and modified by FIP.16 (April 2026)
FAssets — XRP, DOGE, and Bitcoin can be brought onto Flare as smart-contract-compatible assets using FLR as collateral; each FAsset position requires FLR to be locked as backing
FIP.16 — governance vote concluded April 24, 2026 with 98.06% in favour; annual FLR issuance fell from 5% to 3% on May 14, 2026, base gas fees were raised 20 times to increase burns, and a Flare Income Reinvestment Entity (FIRE) collects protocol revenue to fund FLR buybacks
What determines FLR's value
FLR's primary demand driver is FTSO participation: holders must wrap FLR into WFLR to earn delegation rewards, removing tokens from liquid supply for each reward period. The more data providers are active and the more delegators participate, the larger the share of FLR tied up in the FTSO reward cycle at any given time. A secondary driver is FAssets collateral demand: as XRP, DOGE, and Bitcoin are minted onto Flare for use in DeFi, each position requires FLR to be locked, creating collateral demand that scales with FAssets adoption.
The conclusion of FlareDrops in January 2026 removed what had been 36 months of persistent monthly sell pressure from distribution participants, marking Flare's transition into what the project calls its “operational utility era.” FXRP, the XRP FAsset, passed 100 million tokens in circulation in February 2026, according to Genfinity, indicating measurable DeFi activity building on the network post-distribution.

The Flare Time Series Oracle produces decentralised price and data feeds without third-party providers. The Flare Data Connector cryptographically verifies events on other blockchains and external data sources so contracts can use them without trusted bridges.
Wrap FLR into WFLR and delegate it to FTSO data providers. Rewards are paid for supporting data accuracy, not for classic staking, and wrapped tokens are removed from liquid supply during each reward period.
FlareDrop distributed 24.25 billion FLR over 36 monthly instalments to WFLR holders. It concluded on January 30, 2026, so this supply source is permanently closed.
XRP holders, who received 4.28 billion FLR on January 9, 2023 after Flare's mainnet launched in January 2023.

All transaction fees are burned automatically, unclaimed FTSO rewards are removed from circulation, and a monthly programme burns 66,293,390 FLR as part of a 2.1 billion FLR plan targeting unclaimed airdrop and backer allocations.
They bring XRP, DOGE, and Bitcoin onto Flare as smart-contract-compatible assets, with FLR locked as collateral behind each position. FAssets demand therefore raises FLR collateral demand.
100 billion FLR were created at genesis, with 58.3% allocated to the community, and about 106 billion are tracked in supply data. Not all of it is freely circulating, because community, development, and team pools differ in availability.
FXRP passed 100 million tokens in circulation in February 2026, according to Genfinity. DeFi activity moves with market conditions, so check a live tracker such as DefiLlama for current TVL.
