What is TUSD?
About TrueUSD
TUSD is TrueUSD, a fiat-collateralized stablecoin pegged to the US dollar at a 1:1 ratio. For every TUSD in circulation, an equivalent US dollar is held in reserve accounts managed by regulated third-party trust companies. The stablecoin was originally issued by TrustToken (later Archblock) in 2018 and acquired by Techteryx in 2020, which now operates it. TUSD was the first USD-pegged stablecoin to publish daily independent attestations of its reserves and to integrate Chainlink Proof of Reserve for on-chain verification of collateral coverage — users can verify reserve data in real time through tusd.io.
TUSD tokenomics
TrueUSD operates as a collateral-backed stablecoin rather than a protocol with governance emissions or staking mechanics. Supply is dynamic: new TUSD is minted when eligible users deposit USD through verified channels, and TUSD is burned (permanently destroyed) when redeemed for USD. Approximately 494.5 million TUSD are in circulation as of October 2026, according to CoinGecko.
Supply mechanism — TUSD minted 1:1 against USD deposited by verified participants; tokens burned 1:1 on redemption; circulating supply reflects net minting activity
Reserve backing — each TUSD in public circulation is intended to be backed by USD held in segregated bank accounts at third-party trust custodians
Daily attestations — reserves attested daily by Moore Hong Kong, an independent accounting firm; attestation reports published on tusd.io
Chainlink Proof of Reserve — on-chain data feed from Chainlink publishes TUSD issuance and reserve balance data, allowing automated verification against the circulating supply
Multi-chain deployment — TUSD is natively deployed on Ethereum, TRON, BNB Smart Chain, Avalanche, and additional networks; users should confirm which chain version they are receiving before any swap
No fees — TUSD does not charge fees for minting or redemption through official channels; network gas fees apply for on-chain transfers
What determines TUSD's value
TUSD is designed to hold a constant $1.00 value through direct USD backing and redemption arbitrage: if TUSD trades below $1, holders redeem it for USD and reduce circulating supply; if it trades above $1, new tokens are minted. Maintaining this mechanism requires uninterrupted access to liquid, dollar-denominated reserves and functioning banking relationships.
Several material events affected TUSD in 2025–2026. In October 2025, a Dubai court (amended judgment dated October 17) froze approximately $456 million in TUSD-linked reserves held through Techteryx, according to Messari. S&P Global Ratings subsequently assigned TUSD its lowest stablecoin stability score (5 on its 1-to-5 scale), citing weak governance and scarce reserve information. On February 6, 2026, Archblock, TrustToken, and TrueCoin — the entities that originally built and serviced TrueUSD — filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy in Delaware, citing unpaid invoices from Techteryx, per Messari and Protos.
TUSD has maintained its $1 peg through this period by market price data. Holders considering large TUSD positions should verify current attestation status and reserve composition directly on tusd.io before transacting.
