What is FDUSD?
About First Digital USD
FDUSD is a US dollar-pegged fiat-collateralized stablecoin issued by FD121 Limited, a subsidiary of First Digital Limited, a Hong Kong-headquartered financial firm. Each FDUSD token in circulation is backed 1:1 by reserve assets held at First Digital Trust Limited, a Hong Kong-registered public trust company — not an algorithmic mechanism, not crypto collateral, not a fractional reserve.
FDUSD tokenomics
FDUSD operates a mint-and-burn supply model: tokens are issued only when an equivalent dollar value is deposited into reserve accounts, and tokens are burned upon redemption. Circulating supply stood at approximately 300 million FDUSD as of October 30, 2026, according to CoinGecko, down from a peak of about $4 billion in April 2024, according to DefiLlama data cited by Stablecoin Insider.
Supply mechanism — mint-and-burn; no pre-mined allocation, no team reserve, no fixed cap; supply tracks dollar deposits and redemptions through First Digital Trust
Reserve composition — approximately 85% US Treasury bills, 10–12% overnight repurchase agreements collateralized by Treasuries, and 3–5% cash at banks, held at institutions in Hong Kong, Switzerland, and Australia, according to First Digital's most recent attestation disclosures
Monthly attestations — reserve adequacy is verified by Prescient Assurance (formerly Prism Hong Kong Limited) monthly under the ISAE 3000 limited assurance standard, with reports published publicly
Smart contract audits — FDUSD smart contracts implement the ERC-20 standard and have been audited by PeckShield and Quantstamp
Multi-chain issuance — natively available on Ethereum, BNB Chain, Solana, and Sui; zero platform fees for minting and redemption through First Digital
Regulatory jurisdiction — issued under Hong Kong's Trust Ordinance via First Digital Trust
What determines FDUSD's value
FDUSD's 1:1 peg is maintained by the reserve structure: each token redeemable for one US dollar of assets held in segregated bankruptcy-remote accounts, verified monthly. Supply expands and contracts with trading demand rather than speculative inflows — and that demand is concentrated on Binance, where FDUSD routinely generates 24-hour trading volume approaching or exceeding its entire circulating supply, according to Stablecoin Insider's Q1 2026 report. This volume-to-market-cap ratio reflects FDUSD's primary function as a Binance-native trading vehicle rather than a general settlement layer.
FDUSD peaked at about $4 billion in circulating supply in April 2024, according to DefiLlama data cited by Stablecoin Insider. The supply contracted significantly through 2025 and into 2026, including after Binance removed FDUSD margin trading pairs for BCH, TAO, AVAX, LTC, SUI, ADA, and LINK on January 6, 2026.
